Hospitalist specializing in wound care and hyperbaric medicine at Kindred Hospital
8701 Troost Ave., Kansas City, Missouri full time starting 1994; on staff at Kindred since 1992.

President of the Kindred Hospital Medical Staff 2002 and 2003.

Director of the Wound Care and Hyperbaric Medicine Program from 1994 to July 2006.
At Kindred I supervised a forty bed inpatient wound care unit, making rounds with two teams of
nurses each with a separate stocked wound care cart. Most of our patients were referred to us
with stage four wounds. Three plastic surgeons, each of whom came one day per week,
performed a total of over 1,500 myocutaneous flaps and over 2,000 split thickness skin grafts.
We healed four thousand wounds without surgery. I supervised over 25,000 hyperbaric
treatments in our three monoplace hyperbaric chambers. We had a wonderful multidisciplinary
team and tried our best to create a safe haven for people with nonhealing wounds.

Special Interests and Experience:

Etiology, pathophysiology, prevention and treatment of wounds in the chronically ill.

Wound care education. I give an all-day conference on basic wound care and an all day
conference on advanced wound care.

Medical education. I was the director of the Internal Medicine Residency Program (through
UMKC) at St. Mary's Hospital from 1982 to 1988. I have had medical students rotating on my
service through most of my career.

Writing. I am currently writing two pieces of nonfiction and commencing a book on wound
care.

The care of the developmentally disabled. In 1970-72 I worked at Willowbrook State School
and became an activist in the deinstitutionalization movement in New York State. Willowbrook
was closed in 1984. Since 1972, over 22,000 people have been discharged from large
institutions for the developmentally disabled in New York State. I am helping prepare a
conference, "Remembering Willowbrook," on the site of the old Willowbrook State School.
The site of the old institution has been renovated by the City University of New York, which
uses it as a college campus, and they are sponsoring the upcoming conference.

Walking in cities and on trails.

Retired from medical practice July 1, 2006 age 65.
