CURRENT ACTIVITIES Civil Litigation-Defense and plaintiff evaluations for full range of civil and employment litigation issues including: sexual harassment; age and race discrimination; Post Traumatic Stress Disorder; issues of somatization, abnormal illness behavior and malingering; neuropsychiatric disorders; conservatorship; testamentary capacity; ability to make wills and enter into contracts; issues of undue influence.
Clinical Practice - Child adolescent and adult psychiatry.
Child Custody - Superior court panels in Los Angeles, Orange County, San Bernardino, and Riverside County. Areas of expertise include allegations of abuse including: sexual abuse; parental alienation; domestic violence; parental mental illness; post partum depression; allegations of Munchausen’s, infanticide, substance abuse; and move away cases.
Evaluation of Sexual Offenders - Member of Orange County Probation Department Sex Offender Treatment Program Task Force. Involved in drafting guidelines for treatment including medical treatment such as the use of Depo-Provera. Member of the Sexually Violent Predator Civil Commitment Panel, Clinical Evaluation Panel (State of California, Department of Mental Health).
Criminal Competency Evaluations - Including evaluations of mental state at the time of offense, competency to stand trial, plead guilty, and to waive counsel. California Department of Mental Health Mentally Disordered Offenders panel member.
Workers’ Compensation - Conducts QME and AME evaluations.
Expert Medical Reviewer - Appointed by the California Medical Board to conduct professional competency and mental competency evaluations of physicians.
ACADEMIC & COMMUNITY ACTIVITIES Clinical supervisor, Harbor UCLA Learning Clinic. The clinic specializes in evaluating referrals from the community for ADHD, Disruptive Disorders and Learning disabilities in the South Bay schools. Provide clinical supervision to medical students, psychologists, pediatric, family practice, and psychiatric residents and fellows.
Clinical Supervisor, Harbor UCLA Child Psychiatry Fellowship program. Provide clinical supervision in child psychopharmacology for residents and fellows.
UCLA Forensic Psychiatry Fellowship Program. Conducts a biannual course for forensic psychiatry fellows on psychiatric evaluation in work place litigation, psychic injury, post-traumatic stress disorder in adults and children in civil and criminal context.
Clinical Professor of Family Medicine and Psychiatry at the Western University of Health Sciences, Pomona.
Medical Director, Southern California Neurodiagnostic Laboratory, Los Alamitos, California. Specializes in computerized EEGs (Brian Electrical Activity Mapping studies) to evaluate mild brain injury, epilepsy, learning disabilities, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, and dementia. Polysomnography (sleep lab) evaluating sleep disorders, i.e., narcolepsy, and sleep apnea in adults and children.
1985 to 1992 – Medical Director, Southern California Neuropsychiatric Consultants. Provided leadership and training, organization, and clinical supervision to a team of four psychiatrists, two primary care physicians, five psychologists, and ten marriage family counselors and licensed clinical social worker level therapists and also numerous psychiatric assistants. Executive Medical Director to two inpatient programs, one partial hospitalization program, and three outpatient clinics in the Long Beach area.
Executive Director, Phoenix Center for Men, Long Beach, California. This program specialized in dealing with men’s’ issues and organized conferences, workshops, and ongoing groups for individuals.
1997 to 2000 - Medical Director, Partial Hospital Program, Heritage Hospital, Rancho Cucamonga, California. He provided clinical and organizational leadership for 50-bed partial hospital program devoted to a chronic mentally ill and geriatric psychiatric population. He also supervised a team of psychiatrists, psychologists, social workers, and nursing staff, while providing continuing education to the medical team.
